The Queensland Self Defence & Taekwondo Academy has recently opened the first AAITF branch at the Mackay State School Activity Hall. Students will benefit from regular training in a controlled environment under the direction of highly qualified instructors Jeff and Marcelle Dieben. Mr. Dieben a 5th Dan Black Belt and Mrs. Dieben a 4th Dan Black Belt are both certified by the ITF (International Taekwon-do Federation) and collectively have been teaching Taekwon-do for 35 years.

Crimes involving physical abuse coupled with the well documented level of obesity should be a growing concern for all children and adults. ITF Taekwondo offers an opportunity for people to directly address both these issues. The old adage ‘Healthy Body, Healthy Mind’ is as true today as it was years ago. The Academy has the added advantage over alternative activities by providing students with the skills to deal with unwanted physical approaches, while improving their fitness, health and wellbeing.
The new students both adults and children are will learn appropriate skills on how to deal with situations such as: verbal abuse, grabs, and strikes. Students understand they have the right to defend themselves with a level of force that is appropriate to the situation. For example: physical defence cannot be condoned against a verbal attack. In comparison, immobilizing an attacker with a weapon may be necessary. Students are aware whatever action is taken must be justifiable.
QSDTA trains every Tuesday and Friday at Mackay Central School.
