This year’s AAITF Selections and Nationals were held in Perth, Western Australia, on the 5th and 6th of December 2009 and were hosted by Senior Master Low. On an unusually hot December weekend competitors from around Australia participated in their chosen events, met old acquaintances and made new friends. The atmosphere of the championships was one of friendly rivalry and mutual respect. In spite of the very hot conditions the event was a great success, due in no small part to the many volunteer officials and referees, both local and from interstate, also, parents and members who gave of their time to ensure that the competition was a memorable event for all.
The overall standard of competition continues to improve from year to year and this is no doubt a credit to the instructors and coaches who dedicate their time to working with competitors who themselves desire to improve their performance. A new Australian team, for juniors and veterans, was selected to represent Australia at the next world championships to be held in Belarus. We wish them all the best and look forward to their success.
A highlight of the championships was a visit by First Grandmaster Rhee Ki Ha on the Saturday afternoon. First Grandmaster Rhee had just recently conducted a seminar in Perth and this was a great opportunity for members to meet with him. It was a real privilege to have him visit us.
The Selections and Nationals 2010 will be held in Brisbane and hosted by Sabum Damian Jayamaha. Wishing you all a very successful and prosperous year ahead.
